in the search of a research question
It’s pretty damn hard to come up with a significant research question with the complexity of my interest field in mind. Since last time I come up with the broad and big “sphere of influence” based on my research I thought of directions my asked questions could go.
What does this story say about the systems world we live in?
What could a project regarding this theme look like?
The topics I ended up with my initial research are: systems, politics and the issue my relatives lifework of traditional winemaking is facing.
The first thing that comes to my mind is a story telling approach. Using qualitativ research procedures a work could be done in this directions.
So a possible formulated research question could be like:
How can applied system theory contribute to the issues of traditional wine making in the region of Tokaj Hegyalja in Hungary?
What’s missing here are the details. As it is right now, it’s still far too broad. With “applied” I mean a “product” such as in a film or an installation. Here I have to do much more work. At the moment I can’t imagine an output and it’s difficult to make a commitment now. Furthermore system theory is also too broad as a topic. Here I can envision leverage points as described by H. Meadows. Meadows, D. (1999). Leverage Points — Places to Intervene in a System. The Sustainability Institute, 1–19. Retrieved 3 from http://www.donellameadows.org/wp-content/userfiles/Leverage_Points.pdf
Anyway a big issue I didn’t mentioned yet is the corona-virus induced situation which complicates the process tremendously. Since I’m based in an other country then my entity of interest I have to resort for first interviews over the phone. Also I’m a bit lacking in my language skills and remote communication doesn’t help it either.
