reflection impressions on the free flow seminar

The main take away from the two day free flow seminar was that I talked to a lot of people. The exercise where we had to bring three books to talk about was arbitrary for me(the books ended up being too random and specific for my tastes and preferences, but nevertheless I could find an overarching theme in them), but it felt good wandering through the library and discovering the various fields the books were categorized in.

For the “idea speed dating” exercises I anxiously come up quickly with projects ideas I already had in mind to evade being embarrassed not having any idea what to do for my bachelors. One idea consisted about deliberately training an AI wrongly. Playing and experimenting with the notions of correlation and causality. Feeding machine learning algorithms with various datasets and looking for interesting results would have been the main focus. But after a talk with one of the mentors the obvious fact of the existence of already falsely trained AI come up. Looking at Microsofts Kinect or Twitters recent hideous blunder with their image cropping algorithm, this very fact is undeniable. But since I don’t feel very comfortable tackling this topic from a “designers” perspective, I discarded this idea.

One think I was thinking about was the open mic. We had to perform whatever for 180seconds. I thougt about bringing some wine and inviting the participants for a wine tasting afterwards. I prepared a intro video about the winery whose wine I brought with me. I just translated from Hungarian and put some subtitles in the youtube video.

But since the lack of courgage the group witnessed just about five performances and the event was cut short. Since I already informed some of my colleagues of the particular wines and promised them a tasting I did it nevertheless. Even the owner of the the gorgeous atelier space joined in and expressed praise for the wines I brought with me. I brought an 1998 Tokaji 6 puttonyos Aszu and a super rare purcsin red wine from 2007.
